antiq
Privacy policy
Effective October 2, 2026
antiq is a Latin reader and study companion on the web at antiq.ai and in the antiq mobile app. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and how you can have your data deleted. We have tried to keep it short and plain.
Who we are
antiq is a free, non-commercial project run by Baris Yildirim, an individual developer. In this policy, “antiq”, “we” and “us” mean Baris Yildirim as the person responsible for the service and your data.
You can reach us at yildirimbaris@yahoo.com about anything in this policy.
What we collect
Your account
- Your email address. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, with Google, or with Sign in with Apple. We never see or store a password.
- Your name and profile picture, if Google or Apple share them with us when you sign in.
- Your time zone, so emails and reminders arrive at a sensible hour.
- Whether you have turned off our emails.
- Sign-in records: the link between your account and Google or Apple, and for the mobile app a session token and the kind of device (for example iOS).
Your reading and study data
When you are signed in, we keep what you do in antiq so it can teach you back:
- Your reading progress, and which passages you read and when.
- The words you look up, and where in the text you looked them up.
- Words you flag as wrong, with any note you add.
- Your flashcards, decks and review history.
- Your answers to practice questions.
- Your Daily Words goal, the state of each word you are learning, and your daily practice log.
Feedback
When you use “Talk to us” we store your message, your name and email if you give them or are signed in, the page you were on and basic browser details, and a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address that we use to limit spam.
Technical data
- Error reports from our servers, which may be linked to your account so we can fix what went wrong for you.
- A record of the emails we have sent you, so we do not send too many.
- When you ask for a sign-in code, the code (stored only in scrambled form) and a hashed form of your IP address, to stop abuse.
- On the website, usage and performance data described under Analytics.
Some settings in the mobile app (reader theme, text size, reminder time) stay on your device and are not sent to us. Daily reminders are scheduled on your device; we do not send push notifications.
How we use it
- To run your account and keep your place, words and cards in sync across devices.
- To build your practice from the words you look up and study.
- To send you the emails described below.
- To answer your feedback and fix the problems you report.
- To understand which parts of antiq work and which do not, and to improve them.
- To keep the service secure and stop abuse.
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads, and we do not use your data for advertising. The mobile app contains no advertising or analytics software.
Who processes it
We use a small number of services to run antiq. Each one handles data only to do its job for us.
- Vercel: hosts the website and the server the app talks to, and measures page speed.
- Neon: hosts our database, where your account and study data are stored.
- Resend: delivers our emails, including sign-in codes.
- PostHog: product analytics on the website (see Analytics).
- Google and Apple: let you sign in with your Google or Apple account.
- Google Gemini: an AI service we use to write practice questions, grammar notes and short practice texts. We send it Latin passages and words from our library, and in some practice features the Latin words you are studying. We do not send it your name or email address.
- fal.ai: draws the illustrations for dictionary words. It receives only the word being illustrated, nothing about you.
- Telegram: when you flag a word as wrong, the flag (the word, your note and your email address) is sent to the founder through a private Telegram chat so it can be fixed quickly.
“Talk to us” messages are also emailed to the founder so they get a reply.
Emails and how to stop them
If you have an account, we may send you:
- Sign-in codes when you ask for them.
- A short series of welcome emails after you sign up.
- A weekly summary of your reading and study.
- An occasional note if you have not been back for a while.
- Occasional news about antiq.
Our emails carry an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also email yildirimbaris@yahoo.com at any time and we will turn them off for your account. Sign-in codes are sent only when you ask for one.
So that he can answer replies and spot problems, the founder receives a copy of the emails antiq sends you. Sign-in codes are never copied.
Analytics
On the website we use PostHog to see how people use antiq: which pages they visit, which features they use, and where things break. PostHog may also record sessions (clicks, scrolling and what appears on screen) so we can see where the site is confusing. When you are signed in, this activity is linked to your account, including your email address and name. PostHog uses cookies or similar browser storage.
The mobile app does not use any analytics service. What you do in the app reaches us only through the study data listed above.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and study data for as long as you have an account.
You can delete your account from the Profile screen in the antiq app, or by emailing yildirimbaris@yahoo.com. Your account is deactivated at once: you are signed out everywhere and we stop sending you emails. After 30 days, your account and all data linked to it are permanently deleted. If you sign in again within those 30 days, the deletion is cancelled. If you signed in with Apple, deleting your account also revokes antiq’s access to your Apple ID sign-in.
If you would like a copy of your data, email yildirimbaris@yahoo.com from the address on your account and we will send it to you.
Children
antiq is meant for students and adults. Children under 13 should use it only with a parent or teacher. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information without that supervision, email yildirimbaris@yahoo.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change matters for how we use your data, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
