Latin Verb Conjugations
Latin verbs fall into four main conjugations, categorized by the vowel before the final -re in the present infinitive:
- 1st Conjugation: -āre (e.g., amāre – “to love”)
- 2nd Conjugation: -ēre (e.g., vidēre – “to see”)
- 3rd Conjugation: -ere (e.g., dūcere – “to lead”)
- 4th Conjugation: -īre (e.g., audīre – “to hear”)
Each conjugation follows predictable patterns in forming tenses, person endings, and mood. Some verbs are irregular (esse, posse, etc.) and don't strictly follow these patterns.
